When interviewed, contestants in the Mr. and Miss Hammanskraal Beauty pageant highlighted the quality of water in the area. Household were supplied with contaminated water and this sparked fears of an outbreak of diseases.
But the audience remained cheerful thought the contest, cheering their favourite contestants, stomping their feet, ululating and urging them on with cat whistles. Some audience were surprised when the contestants did not parade in swimwear as usually is the case in many pageants.
But manager of the Mr. and Miss Hammanskraal Beauty Pageant, Happy Mhelembe, said; “Our organization believes in building great leaders of tomorrow. We need beauty of the brain not that of the body looks. That is why we do not do bikinis”.
Tebogo Madikgotla romped home with the crown that had a prize tag of R1 500, a voucher to a game reserve. Second prize went to Palesa Obutsitse, R1000, a holiday voucher, Omphile won the third spot and was offered R500 and a holiday voucher. Lethabo Baloyi won the male version of the contest, and was presented with the first prize of R1 500, first prince, received R100 and the third prize was R500.
